"Teams have asked him, in general, about the outfield, first base, second base. He's pretty open to any position other than catcher and pitcher." - - Arn Tellem
Word on the street in Dallas - - aside from dozens of trade speculations that have nothing to do with the Yankees - - is that Cashman will be meeting with Nomar’s agent, Arn Tellem, today to discuss possible roles for Nomar in New York. No numbers have been mentioned yet so I wouldn’t put too much stock in this meeting, but it is interesting that of all the players that could possibly fill out our roster, Garciaparra is one of the few being talked to.Labels: free agency/arbitration |
I would love to see a Nomar pick-up, if for no other reason than that would mean pictures of his hot wife all over the New York tabloids. :)
Okay, besides that I think he's a darn good fill-in at first, second, or short. He's a decent bat off the bench and I think he's athletic enough to play left or center field. A lack of arm strength probably keeps him from playing any in right.
If Nomar is willing to come to New York and play in that utility role I can't think of anyone in baseball I'd rather have doing it for us.
