Bettors Laying Odds on 2006 Yankees
Sunday, January 22, 2006
Personally, I am a law-abiding citizen, I’m very wholesome, and I would never place wagers on a sport I hold dear.

That said, SportsBook.com is offering some interesting odds on several MLB. For journalistic purposes only, here are some that I find interesting:
World Series
TeamOddsComments
Yankees 4-1Obvious, even pre-season
Red Sox 10-1I'd say that is generous. Gaping holes at centerfield and shortstop, management controversy...good luck.
Home Runs
PlayerOddsComments
A-Rod 6-1Barring any injuries, this one seems like a very safe bet
David Ortiz 7-1I'm actually surprised that his odds are so close to A-Rods, even with his great numbers last year. There's no doubt in my mind that he'll hit many home runs, but I don't see him topping A-Rod
Barry Bonds 15-1What?! I give him 26 homers.
World Baseball Cup
CountryOddsComments
Dominican Republic 6-5Manny, Ortiz, Pujols...good luck, Netherlands
USA 6-5Probably the only team that has a chance of standing up to the Dominican ambush
China 500-1Well...at least they'll get a medal for participation

As I said on this week's bgeeks podcast, my money is on the U.S. to win it all.

    Flashy offense from the Dominican.

    Flashy pitching from Venezuela.

    Flashy everything from Cuba.

But, in the end, the trophy will go to the U.S.

wow, a sox/yanks comparison based entirely on offense... apart from the 9th inning, is there anywhere the sox DON'T have the yankees beat on pitching?

oh yes, and now that Roger's out, the Dominicans own the #1 starter in the tournament... if his toe is ok...
