Jobamania: Phase One
Tuesday, June 03, 2008
The New York Post headline writers are hard at work right now trying to come up with a catchy pun incorporating "Joba" and "Armageddon," but I hope the rest of y'all are keeping your wits about you. Allow me to inject a small dose of "simmer down" into your evening...

I think the Yankees biggest mistake in all the Jobamania is the fact that they should have sent him to the minors to build his pitch count instead of doing it with the Yankees.

He did do some of it during games but the throwing in the bullpen doesn't simulate game conditions.

Come on folks! That start was a success! He had some control issues but all in all, he did well. He battled and didn't get hit hard.

He is throwing a different way then he did coming from the pen. I didn't get to see it but I bet the K-zone wasn't the kindest place in the park either. From what I see in the box scores and read in reports I am guessing the ump had a jenny-craig zone.

The kid will get it done. It may take another 3-4 starts before the stats match the hype (and they will) but be patient, the kid hasn't thrown 70 pitches in one session yet.

If Lyle Overbay can figure it out, why can't Yankee management figure it out?

"He wasn't throwing those for strikes and we weren't chasing them," Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay said. "Usually, in the eighth inning, we're chasing those. That's how he's successful, is he throws it where it looks like it's going to be a strike and we chase it."

Here, you have an opposing player admitting to why Joba is successful. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
