I SAID SexsNO
Thursday, July 17, 2008
ESPN is reporting that the Yanks have a "tentative" deal to bring Richie SexsNO to the Bronx as early as Saturday.

Is he really better than Better Mint? I'm assuming that's whose roster spot will be usurped. He actually hits pretty well against lefties - .344 average this year - which I admittedly did not realize when I first proclaimed my disdain for the very thought of bringing him on the team, so I suppose there is an outside chance that he can do something for the team. They only have to pay him a prorated chunk of the league minimum $390K, so even if he winds up being miserable at least they wont have wasted much dinero on the perdador.

Thoughts?

I don't really know how I feel about this..
On one hand, I REALLY don't think the Yankees need yet another DH/Pinch Hitter..

On the other hand, the starters are not hitting at all..

Hopefully between this deal and the break the offense will finally get something going.

At least they got the cheapest deal possible (I think)...

well never have to worry about needing a first baseman thats for sure!

its league minimum so if he sucks, no biggie.

i doubt betemit will have his spot taken. itll prolly be moeller who is to be DFA'ed.
i dont mind the move as its no risk. however, i dont like the whole "throw s*** at the wall and see if it sticks" idea. buttt it cant hurt... can it?

I think its a stupid move. Really a non-move, for the vaunted Cashman.

I understand working to keep good prospects that can help the team, but Cashman has looked like the only thing he is willing to do is pick garbage off the trash heap.

He takes up a roster spot and if he sucks he might have Cashman fooled that he doesn't need to make any other moves.

Cashman has been disappointing these past few years.

Chick, you're overlooking things here. Sexson will ONLY play against left-handed pitching, against which he is hitting .344 and OPS'ing over 1.000. He's a fantastic glove (.994 fielding %, career) so he could even serve as a late-inning defensive replacement. He is better than Giambi, Betemit, and Cano at 1B and will have a chance to do damage at the plate against southpaws. He's a bench player...and a cheap one at that. Just considering these facts, how can Sexson make anything worse?

So far the player who seems to be getting bumped off for Sexson is Giambi. That isn't all that good considering that Sexson is not all that great a bat.

I think this is a nothing move and won't do much at all for the Yankees in the long run.
