The Yankees Chick got into a little trouble over at a Red Sox blog today, my babies. I enjoy perusing Blogs O’ The Other 29 from time to time to see what the haps are in non-Yanks-ville; I like to hear what my blogging compatriots are up to and what their take is on the latest and greatest MLB scoop. Usually I just read the posts and mosey on my merry way, but occasionally I jump in on the comments if I have something remotely interesting to say (although if I had something truly interesting to say, I’d probably run over here to post it on Yankees Chick - it is rare for me to think of something moderately amusing or remarkable about which to blog, and I can’t be wasting those extraordinary moments in the comments sections of other blogs) or if something fires me up enough to take a stand against stupidity. My little brush with angry Red Sox fans today came over at a blog by the Red Sox Chick (and no, neither one of us “copied” the other; she’s been blogging longer than Yours Truly so she certainly didn’t hijack my name, and I had never heard of her until someone pointed the site out to me recently), regarding some comments she wrote about the night the Red Sox clinched the division title. The particular statement that got my blood boiling and bile rising from my stomach was the following:
Congratulations to all the Red Sox fans, especially those of us who never gave up. And, not so incidentally, up yours Yankees fans. Especially those of you who wrote me all year long to tell me my team was going to choke. How ironic that the Sox clinched tonight, due in part, to the great Mariano Rivera choking.
Comments like that so perfectly exemplify what I find so insufferable about Red Sox fans as an entity (yes, yes, I know not every Red Sox fan is like that, just like not every Yankees fan is an elitist beating) that, try as I might to reign in the sass, I could not restrain myself from responding:
Greetings from Yankee-ville...

First and foremost, let me say that in general I have nothing but respect for ALL bloggers and fans of all teams - I absolutely understand passion, rivalry, team support, etc.

That said, I am at a loss as to why anyone would choose to represent themselves as such mean-spirited, ignorant, beligerant smart-asses. Obviously the Yanks and Saaaawx have a long-standing rivalry, and fans of both teams are guilty of acting like morons at times. However, I think time and time again Red Sox fans have proven that they have little respect for fans of other teams and have deservedly earned themselves the reputation of being a group of petty, beligerant "blind supporters" with rarely more to say than "up yours!" How does that possibly make a point? Wouldnt anyone prefer to make cogent arguments or statements about their team or their rival? I see zero value in the "u suck sawx rulz lol omg yanks choke" crap so many Sox fans choose to spew rather than take the time and effort to make an intelligent comment. It IS possible to support your team of choice and even mock or put down the ones you hate via intelligent and actual well thought out statements.

As a Yankees fan, I clearly fall into the category of "Red Sox Hater", but I pride myself on at least maintaining dignity and giving credit where credit is due. When the Sox came back to beat the Yanks in 2004, it was because the truly were the better team - they deserved it. I - and any other Yanks fan of marginal intelect - saw no value in making immature "Whatever the Yanks are still better we have 26 championships" comments, because the first part was clearly untrue and the latter was irrelevant and petty. Red Sox fans, however, seem incapable of admitting even the smallest failures of the team. They sqaundered a 14.5 game lead down to barely 1 and yet fans still were asinine enough to say that the Yanks "suck" or to mock them for earning a wildcard spot? They have the audacity to call the Yanks overspenders when they have contracts like Drews and Dice-K's saddling them? Comments like that lack anything remotely resembling insight and are utterly embarassing even to read.

There is a reason Sox fans have the reputation of being the most obnoxious fans in baseball. Fans continue to happily portray themselves as unwilling to think or have an ounce of self-respect.

Red Sox Chick, please know that this little ditty is certainly not directed solely at you; I recognize and appreciate that you are not 100% like the worst of Red Sox Nation and I know that some of the points I just made do not apply to you in particular. I actually enjoy and respect your blog... It's just unfortunate that you and your readers so often choose to forgo dignity in favor of spite and blind pride.

Needless to say, the Red Sox Chickadee and her fans were not pleased. I suppose perhaps it was not “nice” of me to tell a Red Sox blogger that I don’t like Red Sox fans, but as a blogger that takes quite a bit of shit herself (thanks, lovelies) I feel that comments both good and bad are part of the package when one chooses to post a public blog. What’s more, while I understand why those folks might have a bone to pick with my opinion, at least I was coherent and used a bit more class than we’d expect from the average 12-year-old.

Allow me to inquire if there really is a Red Sox Chick or is it just a bean eating rooster in drag? Just wondering

I have to agree with you. If you post a public blog and you start talking crap about someone else's team, you should be able to take it too. A good crap talker can dish it as well as receive it.

And I will be the first to say here, that you don't bash anyone. Like you said you give credit where it's due and that's respectful.

That being said, Sox rule, Yanks Suck. LOL.

Hoping our teams meet up in the ALCS.

the rooster has right to crow, but to crow as a class act takes more than 1 win in a coons age. Ask the Marlins. These guys just got a new pair of bobby sox. no need to get uptight.

Yankees Chick - I've been fighting this battle for years. And I just recently came to the conclusion that even when we Yankee fans are respectful, Sox fans just can't bring themselves to be.

I think what you wrote was pretty level-headed.

Oh, I get it now. You posted over at the Red Sox Chick blog just to have something to write about here.

    Well, whatever works.

That was one swell piece of self serving gibberish, Ms Chick.

    Marginal intellect?

You betcha. Nicely capsuled and if the shoe fits, I guess there's no more room for another to fit in your mouth.

you're right anonymous numero uno... tomorrow I'm going to go on John McCain's blog to start some shit there, then I'm heading over to Bill O'Reily's, followed by a quick stop at Ted Haggard's - if someone has an opposing view to me, I'm there! THEN, I come back here and write about it! you've got me all figured out.

meet me at the KKK blog tomorrow at 8?

  • At 6:58 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

... you could have done without the KKK comment, YC. Like the sarcastic tone, but taken just a bit too far... Anywho.

Long time Sox fan, first time visiting your blog. Not bad. A little bit Yank-centric, but kinda expected. Keep up the good work, and mayhaps there will finally be a worthy rematch of the 2004 ALCS.

Yankees Chick, though your thoughts at "Red Sox Chick" were well-put, people like Cyn are just not worth the time and effort. She will never, ever learn. I know you probably knew that ahead of time, but she's incorrigible. She has the notion that she is always the victim because some Yankees fans have either been rude to her, or called her out for being rude (and therefore are by HER definition rude). She ridicules ideas of "Yankee class" because of selected things the Yankees or their fan base have done, and casts the whole lot of us into the pit of fire, then complains when people call her out for painting with so broad a brush. She also holds herself and Red Sox fans on her blog to no standards of decency even though he criticizes Yankees fans for doing the same, or nothing nearly as bad, as her friends write and say.

She notoriously criticizes the Yankees and their fans for doing what the Red Sox have done in the past, such as having a raucous celebration over the Wild Card in 2004. She allows hateful, profane, homophobic anti-Yankee slurs to be posted on both her site and on Sox Sistahs at MySpace, where she has her mugshot with others, but complains when Yankees fans are rude to Red Sox fans at Yankee Stadium. Basically, she is guilty of what she criticizes others of doing, but justifies it at every turn based on her allegiance to the Red Sox.

One way or another, it's always someone else's fault when dealing with the whack-job that is Cyn and her gaggle of followers at Red Sox Chick. She's nothing if not the holder of a double-standard. Then she cries foul when people call her out for what is so obvious for anyone to see--thoroughly pointless, childish and rude.

I found your examples of others--KKK, Haggard, O'Reilly--very apt because Cyn does nothing but peddle hatred toward Yankees fans and the team as she roots for the Red Sox. Being a Red Sox fan isn't good enough for her or so many other sports fans, which is disgusting. It's also disgusting to pawn off one's hatred as someone else's fault, and take no responsibility for worsening the way things are. Cyn does, and deserves all the un-profane criticism she gets. she's one of the worst sports fans I've ever read.

I have to give my most sincere
apoligies to The Yankees Chick, whos NL team was crushed in 13 innings and lost the chance to go to the playoffs. But you know what? The Rox didn't even have to show up. The Ump's blew this game in a big big big big way. Missing calls in the field, blowing balls and strikes the WHOLE game, and worst of all, blowing the final play of the game, sashing any hope of coming back one more time. Now don't get me wrong, I wanted the Rox to get in, but just because they came all the way back and they were the underdog-tagged team and maybe to Holliday could get that MVP, but to win it like that is just....Terrible. I'm sorry to any Padres fan who had to end their season on Ump's blowing calls. And I'm sorry to any Rockies fan, because of the extra 3 innings played tonight they will most definatly be demolished by the Phillies.

For the Sox fans, you spent an extra 200 mil, and all you're getting is an AL east. Congratu-fuckin-lations you bean eattin butt pirates.

AND HEY! GROW SOME BALLS AND TYPE YOUR NAMES OUT YA ANONYMOUS PUSSIES

That's rein in the sass. If you're going to pretend to be smart you'll need to get this kind of thing right.

Your site's kinda hard on the eyes, you might want to look at that too.

And you should probably rethink the excessive use of bold type. It's as if you're talking down to your reader. If you can't make what you write interesting without recourse to these kinds of loops and swirls you should probably pack it in.

"apoligies to The Yankees Chick, whos NL team was crushed in 13 innings and lost the chance to go to the playoffs. But you know what?"

Watching their Sunday night game against the Brewers I don't think I've ever seen a team so disinterested in claiming a playoff spot, I know some like to down play thinks but the reaction when Greene hit his homer was catatonic.

I don't know YC you head over to enemy territory are far too polite but do make us all look good in the process.

  • At 4:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Exactly. SHE headed over THERE because she needed to tell the Red Sox Chick and her readers how stupid and mean they all are.

She didn't make Yankees fans look good, she made them look worse than they already do.

Attention whores are sad, YC, very sad.

  • At 4:40 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I'd heard about this blog and the Yankee Chick from reading at the Red Sox Chick.

    Fascinating, really.

A lot of suppositions made by you YC, essentially using a broad brush to paint a fan base, while taking more than a handful of cheap shots. Is not anyone entitled to react to those who only hound and bay for months at a time? Is it just possible that the Sox winning the AL East was a sweet dessert for the Red Sox Chick who had been harrassed by a handful of Yankee fans who might be the subject of her remarks? At least, that's what she said...

Is this the new and elevated fan forum, with Saints functioning as moral leaders? Right....

It's baseball, plain and simple. It's also a specific point of view, which is all yours. No one is coming to arrest anybody, are they?

And while I won't pretend to know what goes on over here in detail, I understand this place is about the New York Yankees. Good for you! Proud heritage and many fabulous moments in the annals of the game. Who can deny all that the Yankees have accomplished?

But, you are a Yankee fan, which naturally makes you stupid. Writing for all to see is simply punctuating the point...

    Now, you have a choice...

    A. The last two sentences were pure sarcastic humor, and you can laugh at yourself.

    B. I should call the police and fire departments because you've rallied your flock to come torch my home.

If you opt for A, we're all set. If you choose B, then I'm mean and you're not.

    Okee Dokee

(keep in mind, I only say it if I mean it, so if you're willing, I'd like to see where this might go)

Very funny stuff, anonymous, considering that you came here from a site that descends into the recesses of ignorance, hatred, homophobia, and generalizing from the author and commenters on Red Sox Chick. As with the other pro-Red Sox Chick and Red Sox anonymous postings, yours avoids the real meat of the issue--the fact that Red Sox Chick pours out hatred, profanity and ignorance, tolerating and even encouraging it with her own style of writing, and tries to justify it by passing the buck unto others---Yankees fans. She should take some responsibility for her own actions and attitudes and stop doing what she accuses others of doing. Any child could see that.

Your focus on Boston winning the AL East as a possible explanation for the argument between the Yankees and Red Sox Chicks overlooks one important fact--Yankees Chick put her finger on exactly what all Red Sox Chick's critics point out--her hatred, profanity, and ignorance explained as just support for her team. One does not have to lead to the other, but it does with Cyn. Regardless of how some---SOME---Yankees fans act to her, there's no excuse for her terrible behavior. Stop making excuses for her. She should own up to being what she is---a hater, and way more than a "Yankee Hater." Stop covering up for that. She's basically a lost cause, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be ripped a new one for it.

  • At 6:55 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

If you think the Red Sox Chick is a homophobe, you truly have no idea what you're talking about. LOL

It's interesting to see Red Sox fans get bashed for doing things Yankees fans do.

Once again that double standard. Yankees and their fans can do no wrong, while Red Sox and their fans are horrible.

    This place is laughable.

Let me just say this to all the people who posted here and the people who post over at Cyn's blog - I hope you are enjoing that First Amendment as you contend that other people don't deserve it at the same time.

Cyn is not a good writer, and when you don't have good sports analysis skills, you resort to talking about which players on the team you hate are gay or crybabies (by the way, the number of people calling the Yankees crybabies over there when the Red Sox have Kevin F-in Youkilis on their team is amazing. He's the Scarlett O'Hara of baseball.)

Anyway - Beth over at Cursed to First is one of the few Red Sox bloggers I read because she understands the game, most of the time she writes with little malice toward the other team, and she seems to have a life outside of baseball.

Cyn just strikes me as one of those drunk chicks you see at Fenway who think that because they're wearing all the gear and they grew up in New England, they are somehow an authority. http://confessionalpoet.typepad.com/cursed_to_first/

Anonymous, and it's again someone anonymous and not named, I didn't say Red Sox Chick is a homophobe. I said that her blog allows obviously homophobic comments, usually with the commenters, there and at other blogs where her name and face indicate it's her blog (Sox Sistahs at MySpace). Commenters on her blogs slur Yankees players with homosexual terms and imagery. There's a difference between what I obviously said about allowing homophobia to exist, and how you obviously misread it as her being a homophobe. Next time, maybe bring someone to the computer to help you read so you can get what people write right. You are laughable, and so is Red Sox Chick. Anybody knows that.

Yankees Chick, I think I love you! All of us Yankees fans have had similar run ins in the past with members of the Nation. Hell, I used to live in Boston and was spit on...yes, I was actually spit on. I had thought after 2004 the sox fans would calm down a bit, but it seems they have only gotten worse as thier fairweather leigon has grown. It's obnoxious. Some of my best friends are sox fans, but we talk about the game, about the pitchers, and we give respect to each others clutch preformers. The fans in question are the ones who run out to buy the latest "Jeter Swallows" or "A-Rod has Aids" t-shirt. You just don't see that kind of crap at Yankee Staduim.

I suppose you think the 1.2 BILLION+ spent by Herr Steinbrenner has been a good investment?

To the Gehrig guy - you're complaining about homophobic comments on a blog? What about the homophobic bleacher rats at MFY Stadium? What's your stance on that? How about the comment I quoted above?

This picture typifies mfy fans -

whatever motherfuckerfaces - get off your high horse - yankee fans invented rudeness (1918, blahh, blah, blah...) so stick your 26 rings up your ass and get over the fact that stienbrenner's money doesn't always buy the best team.

If it makes you feel better about yourselves to bash the Red Sox Chick, by all means keep doing it - she's smarter then you , and she probably doesn't really give a shit what you think (I know I don't)...

For anyone who might not know, all these recent posts are from the haters who post regularly at "Red Sox Chick," and I think everyone can see what I said earlier was true--the profanity, the hatred, no standards of decency. Don't blame others for your hatred and stupidity, Tru, Sam Jackson's Love Child, and other anonymous posters. You are who you are because you choose to be that way. That's your fault. If Yankees fans have been rude to you, that's their fault. You returning the favor makes you out to be who you are and choose to be---haters, and stupid, profane ones at that.

It sure is funny that the anonymous poster---probably "Red Sox Chick" herself---whined about people getting sicked after her, and her little followers take it upon themselves to scurry over to defend her honor by showing how low they are. Great job, people, you proved what everyone here and at "Red Sox Chick" criticized you for--your profanity, hatred, ignorance, excuse-making, machismo garbage. On cue.

And BB, wrong is wrong. I have always said, to friends and in a lot of other places, that that behavior at Yankee Stadium during the YMCA is wrong, always and from whoever acts like that. I don't put up with Yankees fans acting like trash to others around me, and profanity and homophobia is a terrible way to express yourself in this rivalry. Yankees fans here should think about that too. Wrong is wrong. But take your questions trying to show hypocritical actions to Sam Jackson's Love Child, "Red Sox Chick" and others. Not to me. Wrong is wrong. If you haven't got that from all I've said, you're as hopeless as Cyn. Maybe that's why why post there, you see sports in common and will put up with whatever your side says as OK. Thanks for being wrong again, Red Sox fans who posted here.

    Lovelies...

I just had to clear 2 things up here real quick:

    A) I have never contended that a lot of Yanks fans weren't obnoxious themselves.I've said it here and I said it over at RSC's site, too.As Gehrig pointed out, wrong is wrong. I would never defend a fan of ANY team that acts like that - Yanks fans included.

    B) Everything I said on that blog was done with respect. I did not bust out any "low blows" or make personal attacks on Cyn's character. The fact that she and so many others resorted straight back to childish attacks on myself, the quality of my writing, even my appearance, seems silly to me. I did not do that to her and am disappointed (though not really surprised) that she chose to take that route rather than respond rationally and maturely. Saying "I bet she just came to my site so she'd have something to write about" is probably one of the most ridiculous ways to respond to a respectful criticism I can fathom. I understand why what I said pissed a lot of Red Sox fans off and would have welcomed some debate or attempts to show me that there are more than just the handful that I know that do not fall into that category. Instead she and her fans chose to remark on everything BUT what I actually wrote.

Krustine, thank you for the link - it is nice to see that there are more people like that around. I hope you all will go check that site out!

And finally... BB... You get the award for best comment on this thread for tying this into the revolutionary war. My 8th grade Social Studies teacher would be so jazzed right now. (sidenote: I wonder what that lady is up to these days? She was one of my all-time fave teachers. I still laugh thinking of her saying "they STILL hate Sherman down there"... She was passionate about that Civil War history!)

So does that mean you had to leave a trail of bread crumbs so they can come over here and poison the atmosphere?

Very few times have I seen a Sox fan anywhere post anything more enlightening than "Yankees Suck".

Wow, YC,I've been a reader of your blog for about a year. I think this is the most posting I've seen here and that's on a cumulative basis!

Well, that's when you get two blogs, focusing on the Red Sox and Yanks. And, actually, it's giving me something to read while I'm at work...

I may have a sports-based dislike for anything wearing pinstrips, but I've had the good fortune of knowing and being friends with Yankees fans. We just agree to disagree on most things during baseball season. I've also known some very annoying Sox fans (my dad, oddly enough, is one of them). Eh.

Can't win all the time, can you?

This sort of thing is so stupid. There are millions of Yankees fans. There are millions of Red Sox fans. Claiming that one group has class (or is better in some other way) whilst the other doesn't is just stupid.

And, frankly, YC, you did just that in your "respectful" post over at Red Sox Chick.

So back and forth the posts go about how "Yankees fans this" and "Red Sox fans that." Meh.

I know lots of Yankees fans (and am one myself) and lots of Red Sox fans (including my wife). Luckily, all of them manage to root for their teams w/o being neanderthals.

But then this is the internet, which seems to have managed to resurrect the neanderthal (and hand him a keyboard and some beer).

Oh Yankees Chick, everyone in this world isn't as laid back as the stoners and surfers of SoCal. There are plenty of people in this world that are just jerks, regardless of who their team is.

For every 20 Red Sox fans who are merciless pieces of embarrassment to the rest of us, I can find 20 Yankees fans of the same variety.

Maybe her problem isn't that she's a Sox fan, but, oh, I don't know, a female sports fan trying to make it in this male-dominated sports world?

Hahahahaha, just kidding. You know I'm a devoted fan of your work, just trying to get a rise out of you. I'm just mad you leave comments on a jerk's site and not mine.

she says she is "15 years older than the yankees chick" - - - in other words, a 39 yr old woman cant handle anyone disagreeing w. her on a blog?

The only thing that really counts is the scoreboard.

    Count the rings.

    SCOREBOARD. Yanks win.

Take all the rest of it and shove it up your ass. It Don't Matter.
