Once again, Torre's contract will be up at the end of the season, meaning that once again we are all going to be playing the guessing game for the next few months. Will Big Stein want Torre back? If not, how can the Yankees Chick apply for the vacated position?

Willie actually signed a three year extension earlier in 2007. Not to worry though, if the Mets keep this up he will be out on his ass and looking for employment. I'll be glad to give him to you.

YC, there's two other intriguing possibilities from within the Yanks coaching ranks, Larry Bowa and Tony Pena. Bowa might be considered a bit of a hothead [along the lines of Lou Piniella] while Tony P. had a good run going in KC a while back, seems good with the young players.

I think unless Joe wins the world Series he won't be back. Mr Steinbrenner has wanted to change the manager since 2004, and since his contract is up at the end of season, only a championship will be good enough for George. I also think if they do win a the title, that Joe retires.

I think it's time we get ready for the Donny Baseball, Manager years.

    How do you apply?

I suggest you just get on your knees which is what you usually do.

Torre has already expressed a desire to keep managing. Of course the only one who knows if that is true for certain is Torre. There is an outside chance that Torre gets a another few years if the team goes deep into the post season, I am sure Jeter would be one of his main supporters.

I am not real comfortable about Girardi managing the team. I don't really know why. I think the NY media would eat him alive and that would get him an early exit. Pena would make for a good manager, and the players know him and respond to him.

Donny Baseball seems to have the inside edge because of him moving up in the coaching staff, but he is untried.

The Yankees could use a manager who can manage the games a little better than Torre has shown.

Mets actually lost last night, but that's besides the point.

What I would actually really like is for Torre to keep managing till Posada retires, and then have Posada manage.

I really think Posada would be great...

...and is it me or do catchers always make the best managers?

With the way the team has turned it around and Torre's desire to return AND the love that the vets have for Torre, I'd be surprised if he doesn't return.

I definitely don't want Girardi in there. He couldn't handle a we-don't-care media and a hands off owner in Florida. How would he handle NY?

YC, Can I be your bench coach if you are chosen to succeed Joe next year as manager?:)
