Hold On, WTF??
Thursday, October 18, 2007
ESPN is reporting that the Yanks offered Torre a deal worth $5 mil (plus $3 in incentives) to stay on for the 2008 season and he has turned it down.

What the hell?

Did NOT see that one coming.

I guess he's had enough of Big Stein jerking him around year after year....?

My first thought was, good for Joe! They (management peeps) have shown little respect for him over the past few years, and this latest affair - keeping him waiting in the wings for over a week - was just too much.

Then I thought, damn, I really hope Joe isn't doing this to try to get more money. He's better than that. Unless, of course, Boras is HIS agent somehow, in which case it all makes sense.

Let's blame Boras regardless. It's more fun.

I think the 1 year offer was the kicker, not the money. (Perhaps the Yanks knew he would refuse that.) To me I think a 1 year deal was a slap in the face to Joe and I'm kinda glad to see that he refused it.

But I'm still going to miss seeing Joe on the bench.

I don't think anyone expected it, but in hindsight, it's funny as hell.

Talk about sticking it to the man...

That said, Yanks better do a massive Torre Appreciation day. Or something.

To top it off, I heard that one of the Little Steins had the nerve to say (paraphrasing) that when Big Stein hired him he didn't have anything going for him. Conveniently, he forgot that this manager who had nothing going for him then led the Yanks to their first WS title since the 70s and then went ahead and led them to 3 more titles and 2 other appearances. Little Stein is proving to be a classless buffoon so far.
