In case you were unaware/forgot, there is other stuff going on in the baseball world besides Clemens and the Mitchell Report. Not much else, but at least one major headline: Goose Gossage has been elected into the Hall of Fame. He was the only one to get the votes necessary this year, though Jim Rice did come very close with over 72%, but very worthy (in my book anyway, the only book that counts on this bloggity) candidate Tim Raines was essentially left in the lurch by voters. Rainesy only got 24% of the vote, which is far too low for a man that could very well be considered the second-best lead-off boy (after Rickey, of course... Rickey would certainly agree that Rickey was the best lead-off hitter Rickey could be and that it surely shouldn't be forgotten that Rickey knows that Rickey should be remembered as the best lead-off hitter the world and Rickey has ever seen...Rickey) in the game. What dost thou think? Ain't he worthy?

I know I said there would be no steroids involved in this posty, but I must mention that Mark "I told you, I don't comment on the past. I'm like that dude from Memento that cannot make new memories" McGwire, like last year, once again fell far short of the necessary 75% of the votes. He'll be on that ballot for a long time obviously, but he might as well give up hope now. Cooperstown has no room for juicers that weren't even all that great before they sauced it up.

Juicers that WERE good before the juice, on the other hand, might get a pass. See you in Cooperstown, Balco Barry.

It's nice to see Goose get in since there aren't too many relievers in the Hall.

I am upset Jim Rice didn't get in so hopefully next year is his year.

Raines should absolutely be in the HOF. The fact that he got so little of the vote shows me how incompetent most baseball writers are.

Nice to see Goose in and McGwire not.
