Nick Markakis has only been playing in the big time for two years now, but he's already getting a tad greedy. Today was the deadline for the O's to renew his contract, and while he was given a raise -- from $400,000 last year up to $455,000 -- it wasn't nearly as much as he wanted to be making. Since he doesn't have three years of service under his belt yet, he wasn't eligible for arbitration, so there was nothing the lad could do about it but suck it up and sign the contract. To add insult to injury (assuming you consider making $455K in the third year of your career an insult), teammates Adam Loewen and Jeremy Guthrie will both be earning more than he, and they too have less than three years of experience. We could use this kid in 2009 with Abreu and either Matsui or
probably gone. He's a Long Island kid greek and besides being very talented a possible matinee idol if in NY..Not to mention the kid can play!@
With him or either fellow teamate Bedard or The tribe's Sabathia, we would be a complete team!
