The Red Sox have finally had enough of Manny Being Manny - "Manny being a difficult, ungrateful jackass" is a more appropriate catchphrase - and kicked him to the curb. Well, technically they traded him, but while Jason Bay is a fine player I think the Sox made a bold statement in giving away a powerhouse essentially to rid themselves of his bad attitude and refusal to make a real effort.

This, of course, is grand news for the Yanks. Manny has always been a Yankee killer, especially in recent times. Over the last 39 games against the Yankees, he was 60 of 132 (.455) with 25 extra-base hits, 30 walks and 40 RBI. Not only will they not have to face him anymore, but the Sox will surely lose a couple crucial games thanks to the loss of his bat (again: Bay is an above average player but he's no HOF bound Manny) and with the Yankees just a couple games behind the Sox in the playoff race this could very well be the deal breaker/maker for who heads to the ALDS and who saddles up on their leather recliner to drown their sorrows in the finest Natty Light.

By the way: did y'all notice that Manny benched himself BOTH times his team was set to face Jobamania? Quite the compliment.

By the way, again: Interesting/funny that Joe Torre will be teaming up with an old rival in a playoff race!

I know people think the Red Sox "gave away" many but let me tell ya, Bay is no slouch. In a more powerful line up with the green monster to bounce some shots off, he will open eyes that have only glanced over him before. He has produced admirably in a weak line up until now. Don't read too much into last years .247, the next two months will let people see whats real.

I love the moves the Yankees made and think they give them a great shot at #27. But, I think the Red Sox did a lot to help team chemistry without downgrading too much (let's face it, Bay is no Manny)

As a Yankee fan, I am giddy that Manny is hitting in the NL West. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that Bay is a gamer who has been repressed playing for the Pirates. With limited protection in the Pirates lineup, Bay managed to average 30-35 HRs and a .285 BA. Not bad. Now put him in the mix with a short LF porch, Papi, Drew, Youk (let's face it - he looks like he has some kind of learning deficiency) and I think Bay will be just fine - - esp. at a "mere" 7.5 mil next season. But, I was pleased the Sux had to give up Hansen and another prospect (name escapes me at the moment) plus pick up the remaining $7 mil on his contract in order to unload him.

I think they will regret sending Manny away to the Dodgers. He may be a basket case in the club house but when he steps on the baseball field he does what all hitters wish they could do...straight out rake!

Having Ortiz and Manny together was a death sentence to opposing pitchers. Since this is a Yanks blog, I guess everyone who loves the pinstripes should be very happy. No more .321AVG, 55HRs, 163RBIs, 137Rs, .411OBP, .618SLG, and 1.029OPS all in 725ABs.

With the additions Cashman made and the departure of Manny Yanks fans should have a smile on their faces.

    Hmmmm.....

Griffey and Ramirez are both free agents next year.....

We'll have room for a LF and a DH right?

Manny best not pull any of that crap with Torre in the dugout. It's odd that he now manages Manny and Derek Lowe.

You've got to wonder how Torre is going to get along with Manny.

I miss him already...think Torre will succeed in getting him to cut his hair?

With his current streak he's on at the plate I don't Torre is going to say or do anything with Manny.

Hitting HR's and batting .500+ earns respect and the choice to have any sort of haircut he wants.
