Rays Have Cash and They're Not Afraid to Use It

In addition to my usual Yankees Chick posts, I have also begun writing regularly for AOL's FanHouse blog. I will post the beginnings of those articles here on YC, and then you'll have to click the link to jump on over to FH to read the rest... stick with me here, amigos!

Payroll, particularly in the AL East, where there have been discrepancies in spending as large as $180 million, quite often correlates at least roughly to the success of a team. Last year, as usual, the top two spenders in the league (the Yanks and Sox) wound up making the playoffs, while the low men on the payroll totem poll (the Rays, Marlins, Nationals, and Pirates) all finished at the bottom of the barrel. There are exceptions, of course, but generally speaking the top spenders tend to finish towards to the top of their divisions while the cheapskates remain at the bottom.

    @anonymous ha ha ha ...good one

    I think the Devil Rays are doing a good thing by increasing their payroll because it shows they are trying to win (not that they actually will), which is something their cross state rivals, the Marlins, can't say. I think they might actually get more attendance from Marlins fans who are sick of the dumbest ownership in baseball.

    Btw, I emailed you a bit back about advertising and getting added to your blogroll, still waiting for a response...
