Brian Cashman has had to deal with threats of being fired several times now -- what with all of the playoff busts -- but now that Big George Steinbrenner has surrendered much of his control to his sons, the firing talk has simmered down and extension talk has taken its place. Hank Steinbrenner, who has proven himself to be much more level-headed than his father when it comes to matters like hiring and firing (not to mention trades), has confirmed that he is open to discussions about a contract extension for The Cash Man. I find it odd when the owner of a team makes baseball decisions contrary to what their baseball people recommend. Isn't that why you hire them in the first place? This is STILL happening in Baltimore, used to happen in Queens, and unfortunately, looks like it'll happen with the Yankees. Even if they bring back Cash, we all know who makes the final decisions.
