Everyone likes to say "Spring Training doesn't mean anything" when their team is doing poorly, but since so many of the Yanks are doing well I think we should toss that ol' catchphrase out the window in favor of the more positive "Spring Training is an exciting indicator of the potential contributions of various Major League Baseball players for whom it provides a valuable practice environment of which they take full advantage to hone their skills and gain momentum that they will take along with them to the regular season." Whew! Perhaps I need to reevaluate the wording there. I mentioned the other day that I had bestowed the prestigious title of YCPOSTTF (Yankees Chick Player of Spring Training Thus Far, OBV!) upon Shelly "I AM THE SPIRIT COORDINATOR AND YES I'M SHOUTING IT TO THE ROOFTOPS WOOOOOOOOOOT!" Duncany (make sure you say that "WOOOOOT!" in the Howard Dean fashion when you read that). His RBI total is up to 9 and his batting average is .636 with 2 homers in 11 at-bats - he is really giving it his all to earn his spot on the team. Since SC (Spirit Coordinator, duhhhhh) has continued to be fabulous, he is retaining his title of YCPOSTTF, but I am happy to announce that a couple more players have joined the Shellster: Robby Cano: Our dear second baseman went 3-3 yesterday against the Twins, boosting his ST average to .700. Johnny Damon: His average is only .250, but he earned the title by pulling a Brangelina and rounding up the team for a trip to the VA hospital after the game on Wednesday. Giambino: Jason's contract with the Yanks is coming to a close after this year, and he looks like he's preparing himself to participate in the "have a helluva contract year so I can get another good deal" fun. He's hitting .429 with a couple doubles and a homer, and he hasn't fucked up at first base yet, and Girardino is impressed. There team has an overload of DH's (Matsui, Giambi, Posada on occassion, sometimes Damon if Matsui is playing, and so forth), so Giambi's performance is helping to make a case for him to earn the most playing time as possible. Congratulations, YCPOSTTF's! As for the rest of y'all Yanks... boost your numbers and you too can earn a trophy from the YC!* *There is no trophy :( I'm sorry. I'm too poor. Wang was awesome yesterday!
No #1 Starter = No playoffs for the Yankees in 2008!
Bash the ball all you want.
Haing "no pitching" never gets you to the promise land no matter how good your lineup is!
