Where In The World Is My Sweet Sweet Cash Man?
Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Over the last few months, we've heard a lot in the media about what the Steinettes have been up to, particularly the Hankster (apparently Hal is either mute or just not allowed to speak). Little Stein has been featured in newspapers and websites spouting off about what he plans to do with the team, wrestling the reigns from Big Stein quite successfully…. But this begs an important question: what the hell has become of the Cash Man? We have barely heard a peep from the dear fellow since the commencement of the Steinette takeover, and while The Hankster has actually not made any moves that screamed “I’m just like Daddy and will ruin everything that the Cash Man has worked on lickety-split,” I am more than just a smidge fearful that perhaps all the hard work Cash has done to get this team away from their old sell-the-young-to-get-the-ancient habits might be for naught if he’s pushed completely out of power.

Of course, I don’t really know if the Cash Man actually has been usurped by Hankster, but it is certainly strange to me that he has been so silent. What dost thou think??

How often did Cashman talk to the media anyway?

Just because Hank is giving daily sound bytes doesn't mean Cashman isn't involved in the decisions. I've seen no evidence to suggest this.

I've also seen little to no evidence to suggest that the Little Steins will be nearly as hot-headed/ignorant as George and sign useless players (although the jury is still out on that.) Hank did make the statement that, 'the Yankees goal is to win every year but to think that's a reality is ridiculous,' which is more sane than anything I've ever heard George say.

The Yankees brought back Posada, Rivera, Abreu, Molina and oh yeah, A-Rod. Did they overpay for some/most of those guys? Sure, but it was necessary for the most part. They are on the cusp of dealing for the greatest pitcher in the game as well.

As far as I know, Torii Hunter/Andruw Jones/Aaron Rowand/Francisco Cordero/Carlos Silva etc. aren't on the Yankees, so I'd say their offseason is going alright.

I suspect that the press is going to Little Stein more simply because he's making himself so accessible. Plus he's new and exciting, where Cashman is familiar and recalcitrant.

Hey! I saw you on the LIRR last night! I was going to say hello and tell you I read the blog, but you seemed to be in a private conversation and I didn't want to be rude. Anyway, see you on the train.
