This year's April might have been better than last, but that's really not saying much. They're rocking a sub-.500 record and everyone from Hughsie to Cano seems to be having issues. Let's cross our fingers for a good start to month two!
There are questions plaguing my mind, though: Can IPK figure himself out and help the Yanks avoid a Tigers sweep? Can Cano do something other than pop out, ground into a double play, or get caught steeling? Can our Spirit Coordinator dole out enough high fives to pump the team up?
Come on, dudes! Get it together and get a win for I-Ken.
Lineup:
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Duncan 1B
Matsui DH
Cabrera CF
Ensberg 3B
Cano 2B
Moeller C
BTW, it turns out that I was wrong about Hughes - apparently he really
IS injured! I was sure that the DL move was just a way to give him a break without having to put him in the bullpen. He'll be out for at least four weeks and Darrell Rasner will probably take his starts, I'd imagine.
No updates on A-Rod's or Jorgie Porgie Pudding and Pie's injuries. I suppose no news is good news, though...
7:10pm EDT: IPK just had a 1-2-3 inning, three fly balls caught by Melky. Could it be the start of his first good game? Please?
7:21pm EDT: SEEYA! Bobby Abreu 3-run homer with no outs in the bottom of the first. Getting on the board first is always a good sign.
PS: I love Shelley Duncan... but... batting cleanup? Is that the best Girardi could do?
7:55pm EDT: Ordonez just tied the game with a 2-run dub off the wall (he missed a homer by about 2 feet). Sigh and grumble. Seriously, what is wrong with IPK? He's falling apart and it's only the third inning.
8:32pm EDT: Night over for IPK after four runs and five hits in under five innings. Albaladejo Albondigas is charging through the rain from the 'pen to take over.
8:53pm EDT: There ya go, Spirit Coordinator - earn your keep! Game-tying RBI single. He looks happier than a kid in a Yu-Gi-Oh shop.
9:07pm EDT: ALBONDIGAS NOOOO! 2-run trip for Santiago and the Tigers are back in the lead, 6-4.
9:30pm EDT: Bases loaded, two outs, down two in the sixth, Abreu up...
Fail.
God God dammit dammit (three points if you can cite my source there).
Sadly I must leave the house now (or happily, after that). I shall return later and perhaps I'll be treated to news of a delightful come-from-behind victory?
Who's the next cab off the rank after Darrell Rasner (assuming IPK is sent down soon), Kei Igawa?
I guess we're not going to be 'saved' by Roger Clemens this year
