Don't Forget About Us! |
Monday, August 06, 2007 |
There's certainly no shortage of Yanks-related scoop about which to blog, but regardless of the state of los Bombers del Bronxo we must not forget the other teams in the league. As always with these updates, I will follow my self-imposed 10-word limit. Try to control your excitement!
AL East I'm still not giving up on the division. Really! Boston (68-43): Okajima + Gagne + Papelbon is tough to match. Must give credit. Toronto (56-54): Burnett to return. Team still so close yet so far. Baltimore (52-58): Will have to live off Ripken memories. Everything else sucks. Tampa Bay (42-68): Why don't you just move to Vegas?
AL Central I thought you guys had the wildcard locked up. Not so much anymore. Cleveland (62-49): Yanks' main competition at this point. Grady still dreamy. Detroit (61-49): Flailing and failing. Minnesota (55-53): Santana bitter. Come to Bronx, Johan! Chicago (52-59): Struggles or not, I'd still take Contreras over Igawa. Kansas City (48-62): Scored a lot of runs against Yanks. Still couldn't win.
AL West I know I've said it before. But honestly. Why do you only have 4 teams? Los Angeles (64-46): According to ESPN.com, their stadium is dirty. Um... others aren't? Seattle (60-49): Kinda wanna see Ichiro fail, only cuz they spent $98234189. Oakland (53-59): Maybe when you get new stadium NorCal will care more. Texas (48-63): No hope. Ever.
NL East Competition! New York (63-48): Watch your back. Braves aint going down sans fight. Atlanta (59-53): Lineup is pretty scary now. You might have a chance. Philadelphia (58-53): In the running! For now, anyway. Florida (52-60): Wait, why don't you just move to Vegas? Washington (51-60): When your new stadium is complete, people will watch. Maybe.
NL Central If one of you moved to AL West, all would be right in the world. Milwaukee (60-52): If you don't make playoffs, these people will be sad. Chicago (58-52): Soriano down for the count. That looked MUCHO painful. St. Louis (50-58): How did you win the World Series? You're not good. Houston (48-63): Only 11.5 back! Totally have a chance. Cincinnati (4-64): I'm sorry. Pittsburgh (44-64): I'm sorry.
NL West Tightest race right now! Wait, what? Arizona (63-53): Booted Dodgers out of running for now. Padres still better. San Diego (60-50): Peavy and Young are ridiculous. Los Angeles (58-53): Having fun with Doctor Proctor yet? Colorado (56-54): You will have Helton forever. San Francisco (47-62): Finally.Labels: other teams, rest o' the league round-up |

I see you keep bringing this up, so I'm going to guess this is a legitimate question of yours and not just off-handed wisecracks. There has to be an even number of teams in each league (NL and AL). Because the AL and NL rarely play each other, that means each team has to have an opponent within their own league. So if there are 15 teams in the AL, one team would not be able to play anyone every three or four days. The only way to have even teams would be to have the AL and NL play each other all throughout the year.

The Ballpark in Arlington and the beautiful park in San Francisco are definitely not dirty. I'm gonna miss the old stadium, but after enjoying those two amazing parks, it makes the new one easier to stomach. They are incredible.
-
Oh and nice link to the old peeyourpants site. As a designer, I have always thought the old Brewers logo was the best logo in sports. The Pee version of it is now my second favorite.
-
Joba is on his way. Watch out AL East.
-
6 games behind boston, 0.5 for the wildcard. good numbers. someone told me that if we win one more game than the sox every week until the end of september, we'll take the division. it's doable if we keep playing like we have been.
-
That's great news XO. The rest of the schedule looks a lot friendlier than the first half as well, though for some reason Tampa only plays well when they play us.
-
Adam,
No one is scared of AA pitcher Joba! Especially not the BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL: The Boston Red Sox! Maybe in a few years?
The "Beat Up on Bad Teams" tour is over. Now it's the "Have to Play the First Place Teams" tour starting this weekend.
I'm sure the outcome will be totally different and here's why I know: Your ERA is the same as it was before the All Star break. You pitching sucks and as you know, as any knowlegeable baseball fan knows: Good pitching always beats good hitting"....end of story!
Keep dreaming though...it will get you through the summer!

The Reds only have four wins?
"Cincinnati (4-64): I'm sorry."
Look out 2003 Detroit Tigers!!
Just kidding. Everyone makes a typo. You have a good blog to read
-
just because the sox are doing well for one season doesn't make them 'the best team in baseball', just as the yankees having a sub par season doesn't mean they suck... but as a sox fan, you probably wouldn't understand that.
-
Wrong blog bud. Plenty of other sites to look at good-looking ladies. Maybe you can even find one wearing a Red Sox cap! Maybe she'll possess a little bit of baseball knowledge too (good luck with that). Happy trails.
-
schilling and the sox fans can say they're not nervous all they want, but the angels are currently handing the sox their asses for the second night in a row, and their lead's about to be down to five games.
all the pressure is on them, just like all the pressure was on the yanks once they started coming back in the '04 ALCS.
cleveland this weekend is a huge test.
and as a native milwaukee-an, i couldn't be more proud of that website. fans who stuck with the team all these years deserve to see some postseason baseball, i hope they keep the cubbies at bay.
-
A yankee fan making a comment about another team overpaying?? Ichiro? Your just pissy because the buy everyone Yankees wont get him. Yankees are a whorehouse.
-
i love how yankee haters are talking about the fact that the yanks have gotten hot against bad teams....as if the red sox built their record only against the top teams in baseball, and never played the rays and royals.
-
Well said Ron. hey you wouldn't happen to have the pitching matchups vs. cleveland would you? You're right. it is gonna be a pretty big series.
-
it's lookking like we'll miss sabathia and get hughes vs. carmona on friday, moose vs. byrd on saturday, andy vs. westbrook on sunday.
-
if you go to bostondirtdogs.com, you can see that the sox fans are in PANIC MODE. it's hilarious.
-
You need some new material for the St. Louis Cardinals, I think you've said "how did you win the World Series, your not that good" the last 15 times you've done these divisional updates.
-
yeah, xo, they should be in panic mode - if the shoe was on the other foot, and the yanks had let a 14.5 game lead turn into a 5 game lead with over a month-and-a-half to play, i'd be in panic mode too.
it remains to be seen if the yankees will be able to come all the way back and get the division, but the fact remains, a lot of haters buried this team wayyyyyyyyyyyy too early.
just thinking about the fact that it would be the single biggest divisional comeback in the history of the sport makes me very happy.
-
Thanks Ron. Great games ahead. Pretty funny stuff XO.
-
anon... yes, the reds have just 4 wins... ;) its a very sad season for them indeed.
and eric: yes, I know i say the same thing for St. Louis every time. when I did the "other teams" update for the 2nd time, I copied and pasted what I had written the first time (so I wouldn't have to make those beautiful colors again... lazy) and updated the records and my comments, but I accidentally skipped the Cards so the comment was the same the 2nd time - that time was a mistake, but I found it amusing so I keep it every time now. plus, lets face it, there isn't much else to say about them...
