Contest: Trivia for Yankees Stadium Legacy Cards
Thursday, May 15, 2008
As a thank you to all of you faithful YC readers (or those of you that accidentally stumbled upon this here bloggity, I love you too), I have some groovy prizes to bestow upon you!

Upper Deck has released an awesome set of cards in honor of the last year at Yankee stadium, and the kind folks at UD have given me a heaping helping of the cards to give away to YOU! Here are the details about the set:
The Upper Deck Company, the industry leader when it comes to creating innovative card sets, is releasing the largest baseball trading card set ever produced. The “Yankee Stadium Legacy” collection, a 6,661-card compilation celebrating every single New York Yankees home game played at the famous “House That Ruth Built,” began its official debut in February by being inserted in random packs of Upper Deck’s 2008 Series 1 Baseball release.

With the old Yankee Stadium playing out its last regular season this year before the Bronx Bombers move to a new ballpark in 2009, Upper Deck decided it was a terrific opportunity to acknowledge the incredible history and happenings that have occurred at Yankee Stadium since its doors opened in 1923. Besides chronicling 85 seasons’ worth of Yankees home games (this season’s games will be included in Upper Deck’s 2009 Series One Baseball release next February to complete the set), this enormous compilation also includes some of the most famous sporting events that have taken place at Yankee Stadium including: legendary Notre Dame Football coach Knute Rockne’s famous “Win one for the Gipper” halftime speech inside the Yankees locker room (Nov. 10, 1928); the Baltimore Colts’ 23-17 overtime victory against the New York Giants in the NFL Championship game, which is often referred to as “the greatest game ever played” (Dec. 28, 1958); and Muhammad Ali’s title defense against Ken Norton (Sept. 28, 1976).

In addition to the enormous accomplishment of collecting the complete set, Upper Deck is giving fans and collectors another reason to find cards from the historic set! Consumers can register the codes on the back of the Yankee Stadium Legacy cards at www.OwnTheLegacy.com to be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win once-in-a-lifetime Yankees prizes. Some of those include a trip for two to this year’s MLB All-Star Game; trips to the last regular-season game in 2008 at Yankee Stadium; and trips to the first 2009 regular-season game held at the new Yankee Stadium. The more card codes entered, the better one’s chances are of winning.

The www.OwnTheLegacy.com website includes a card management system that allows collectors to track their progress on completing the set, as well as message boards where collectors can share their personal Yankee stories with fellow YSL card-collecting enthusiasts. The site also includes the comprehensive YSL Checklist, which shows all 6,661 game cards within the set as well as seven “special moments” cards from Yankee Stadium that Upper Deck has included.

What dost thou have to do to win, you asketh me? It's easy as pie, lovelies. Simply send me an email with the answers to the following trivia questions by Thursday, May 22nd at 11:59pm PDT and you shall be entered to win! On Friday I will put all the respondents with correct answers into a randomizer to pick 5 winners.

The questions!
  1. Who was the pitcher that served up A-Rod's 500th homer last year?
  2. Where did the Yankees play their games while Yankee Stadium was being revamped in the 1970's?
  3. Which Yankee feuded with Joe Torre in1996, calling him a "liar," but came back to the team in 2003?
  4. Which Yankees (past and present) were named in Senator "Politics Smolitics; My Goal Ain't to Represent My Constituents But to Out Juicers!" Mitchell's report?
  5. What other site does YC blog for?
  6. What nickname has YC given Shelley Duncan?

The super groovy prizes are as follows:

Happy Bloggiversary To.... Oh, Me!
Friday, October 19, 2007
After all the hoopla surrounding Torre's stand against the man (or men, now that there are two more Steinettes in the mix) this week I nearly forgot the significance of today's date: it has officially been two years since the inception of this blog, a project that was born out of a healthy mix of Yankees fanaticism and sheer boredom (sorry, old boss) and has evolved into... well, whatever the hell this is.

It's been quite a wild ride, these last 2 years. I've been the brunt of many a derogatory sexual slur (how "I like the Yankees" gets translated into "I'm a raging bitch and slut, likely a member of some godless terrorist sect and probably the ugliest person this side of Don Mossi" I still do not understand, but what the hell do I know? I am but a lowly peasant in your fancy internet world), but I've also been on the receiving end of some of the greatest and most fun email correspondences I've ever had, met and talked to fans (and not just of the Yanks!) all over the world, and been flattered by a few folks' strange and unfounded desires to feature the Yankees Chick over the airwaves and via the magic of online video. The blog has gone from a Blogspot-templated, poorly-written, half-assed outlet for my fandom that no one but myself and perhaps the YCS (Yankees Chick Sisters... there are 5) read in 2005 to... a poorly-designed, poorly-written site that a few more people seem to like. Not bad for 2 years!

To celebrate, I'd like to give one of my lovely friends - or foes (you're already here, you might as well play along too) - a bloggiversary present. As you may have noticed in my barely-coherent ramblings, I am a big fan of nicknames, both ones others made up (Melk-Man) and the dorkus malorkus things my brain churns out (Jobamania, etc etc). For the Yankees Chick Bloggiversary Contest Extravaganza, I think we need some more nicknames: make up a great nickname for a baseball player (past, present, future, as long as it's someone we've heard of), post it in the comments section, and the best one gets a Bronx is Burning DVD.

Just for fun, or if perhaps you are at work and in dire need of a time-waster, here's a quick-and-dirty sampling of what's been going on here at the Yankees Chick for the past 2 years.

Help The Yankees Chick and Win Game Tickets!
Sunday, June 10, 2007
As you may have inferred from the mind-numbingly boring layout of this blog or the obviously MSPaint-crafted banner across the top, I am not an artist (or a writer, for that matter, but let's leave that one alone for now) any more than Carl Pavano is a pitcher. I have made a concerted effort to spruce things up around here in hopes that when you flee my blog it will be because of my writing and not because the site is difficult to navigate or offensively hideous. Sadly, since I do not possess an ounce of artistic talent, I believe I've gone as far as I can go in terms of beautification, so I am looking to YOU for some graphical assistance.

For the next step in my blog rejuvenation project, I would love to put a new banner/logo across the top. I cannot make one due to the aforementioned lack of talent, but I have faith that someone out there in the wide world of Yankees Chick fans (I know there are 3 of you out there...) has an eye for graphics and some sweet photoshop skills. If you are a logo master and want to help me out, I am prepared to reward you with a pair of tickets to a Yankees home game - or tickets to whatever team is closest to your home, should you not be a New Yorker.

Details:
  • The current banner is 890 x 202. Since the rest of the blog is laid out around that size, I'd like the new one to be in that neighborhood as well.
  • You are under no obligation to use my picture or my delightfully alliterative (albeit untrue) subtitle. In fact, that picture is almost 2 years old, and the subtitle is packed with lies: I am no longer brunette, I never was a babe, and there really isn't any "news" on here, unless you count me talking about stuff that happened days ago. Feel free to craft something new.
Contest Info:
  • Email me a .psd of your creation any time before Sunday, June 17
  • Your entry need not be a final draft. Just send a mock-up of a cool idea.
  • Don't photoshop me into a picture with Pedro Martinez or Papi. It won't be funny.
Reward!
  • Should your submission be deemed the most unique and visually appealing banner of the bunch, the Yankees Chick shall bestow upon you 2 tickets to an MLB game. You can choose the team and the date and I will send you the tickets. Exception: you will not be receiving tickets to a Mets or Red Sox series. The Yankees Chick is not rich.
  • In addition to the tickets, you will receive a credit on the blog. I am fortunate enough to get a decent amount of traffic (mostly from google searches for "a-rod stray-rod" and "does derek jeter have a girlfriend?"), so a link on my site may garner you 4 additional visitors per calendar year.
  • Legal mumbojumbo: As soon as you submit your idea, you have given it to me and I can use it. I am a nice and honest person, though, so you can rest assured that I will not be doing anything with your images unless you win.
Please email info@yankeeschick.com with any questions.... I shall wait with bated breath for your emails!

New Contest and Radio Night!
Sunday, April 15, 2007
EDIT 4/18/07: Congratulations to David Sugarman from Vermont, whose story about seeing David Cone's first start as a Yank and his spot-on reason to hate the Red Sox (the movie Fever Pitch) won him the illustrious title of Yankees Chick Weekly Contest Numero Dos Winner!!! Enjoy that hat, my friend.

----------------
EDIT 4/17/07:
Since I wasn't able to post the archive until today, I will wait until 6pm PDT today (Tuesday) to pick the winner, so join in the contest fun!!! Download the archive here: http://yankees-chick.com/nybo_april_15.wma

My lovelies, it is Sunday night again, and you know what that means: Yankees Chick on the radio and another chance for one of YOU to win a delightful prize!!

NY Baseball Online's weekly show airs from 10pm-11pm EST each Sunday night on New York's 1240am, and you can of course listen online. The Yankees Chick will be checking in at about 10:30 or so for the weekly Yankees update, and if you listen (either live or by downloading the archive tomorrow) you can win yourself a brand new Yanks hat to wear to the games or to your Red Sox fan friend's house.

Here's the rules: Listen to the show (live or archived), and send me an email with the following components: 1 topic that I discussed on the show, 1 story about a Yankees game (home or away) you have attended, and 1 good reason to hate the Red Sox. Send me those emails by 6pm EST tomorrow (Monday, 4/16) and I'll pick a winner!!

You Are All Winners! Except if You Lost.
Monday, April 09, 2007
When I decided, on a whim, to start a weekly contest to reward the few folks that take the time to read this site and listen to me on the radio, I will admit I was a tad nervous that I might wake up to an empty email inbox and the sad realization that even the prospect of winning a lovely DVD could not entice people to show the Yankees Chick some love.

You proved me wrong.

I received an incredible number of "contest entry" emails, and, impressively, every single person included both the required radio recap and a joke! The jokes ranged from cliche to utterly inappropriate (and therefore hilarious), and 2 different people actually submitted the same joke ("a zero and an eight are sitting at a bar, and the zero asks the eight, 'why is your belt so tight?'"). Your Yankees Chick is so surprised and flattered by the response to the contest that there is more than one winner this week.

Congratulations and a Yankeeography DVD to:

AJR from the UK, Rick from Ohio, and Larry from....I'm not sure where.

Thank you again to EVERYONE that joined the fun and sent me an email. We'll do another contest next week!

Win a Prize For Listening to the Yankees Chick!
Sunday, April 08, 2007
EDIT 4/09/07: You can listen to the archive (and still win the contest!) here

As I've previously mentioned, I will be appearing weekly on 1240 AM during Yankees Baseball Online's Sunday night shows (10pm-11pm every Sunday) giving my rants and raves on the Yanks' season. Thank you to all of you have been listening the past couple weeks - - - whether you love me or hate me, I appreciate the feedback!

As a hearty THANK YOU to those who listen (and perhaps a little motivation for those of you too lazy to click a link and listen to me ramble), I'm going to give away a prize to one of you delightful fans/detractors/people-that-accidentally-click-the-link-and-can't-figure-out-how-to-mute-me each week, simply for listening and sending me an email!

Tonight's prize is a Yankeeography Volume I dvd, which you can win by sending me an email after my segment on the show tonight stating at least 1 thing that I talked about (so I know you listened) and telling me a joke. In order to win, you MUST include both the talking point AND the joke! I will post the archive of the segment after the show so that you folks that have to go to bed at a decent hour tonight can still listen in the morning. I'll pick a winner at 3pm PST Monday based on the accuracy of the talking point and the hilarity of the joke.

Listen to the broadcast LIVE on New York's 1240 AM and online at http://www.am1240wgbb.com/. The Yankees Chick will be chatting at about 10:40pm EST.

Send your emails to info@yankeeschick.com

And finally, To my Jesus-lovin' Christian readers, happy Easter! To my Moses-Lovin' Jewish readers, happy (belated) Passover! And to my godless sinning readers (like myself), happy Yankees Sunday!
