NY Baseball Digest is being kind enough to have me on their show this evening to berate me for my years of support of A-Rod discuss my feelings on that little A-Rod issue.

Show starts at 7pm EST, I'll be on around 7:30. Click the link below to enjoy!

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's.... the Yankees Chick?!
Sunday, February 01, 2009
It's been many moons since last I performed any of my Yankees Chick duties, and for this I offer you my most Phelps-worthy apologies. I haven't been out on the Yankees and certainly haven't ceased following them, I simply ran out of hours in the day between work and school (and TV), and when I did have a brief moment during which I could have updated the bloggity there were so many things I'd missed to discuss that "catching up" started sounding like a chore.

Well, my love for the team and the enjoyment I get out of posting ugly pictures of players I hate won out over my love for sitting on my ass and watching crime shows, so I'm back! And not a moment too soon... the Yankees have been far from boring this off-season and there is no shortage of news both good and bad to chat about:
  • Yanks get CC, he gets a more slimming uniform.
  • AJ Burnett wins the jackpot... thanks to CC and Tex he gets to reap the benefits of a mega-deal and only be subjected to a fraction of the accompanying pressure.
  • Someone signed Pavano!!! On purpose!
  • We have a real first baseman! No offense to you personally, Giambi.
  • There are officially 107 outfielders on the roster.
  • No one wants to pick up any contracts this year. Owners should be thanking Bush for making the economy so shitty that it is no longer reasonable to sign a third-rate outfielder to a $10 million deal.
  • Torre is breaking my heart with this book. Granted, I haven't read it yet (someone wanna send me one? Torre? Autographed copy?), but I'm concerned that my amount of love for him may be diminished if what I have heard about it is accurate. A-Fraud?! Say it ain't so.
  • A-Rod, WHY are you playing for the Dominican in the WBC?! Do you not remember how irritated people were three years ago when you went back and forth about playing for them and the USA? You can't please everyone. You're not going to please everyone. Stop trying so hard.
  • We found out that it was MATT HARDY who'd been fucking with Jeff Hardy all along! The hotel attack! The hit and run! The PYRO EXPLOSION! IT WAS HIS OWN BROTHER!
  • Woops, wrong topic.
  • MLB Network! Good god I love it. It has improved my quality of life by a solid 1 percent.
Whew! Are you prepared for Yankees Chick to once again become an oft-updated blog? Will you put up with me?

Let's hope so. See you in the morning with...a VIDEO!

**ps: I even updated the poll and Fact o' the Day! DEDICATION.

Yankees Chick on Baseball Prospectus Radio
Tuesday, March 25, 2008
The lovely and talented Brad from the ever-illustrious Baseball Prospectus was kind enough to have a little chat with the decidedly less lovely and/or talented Yankees Chick, during which we discussed everything from my admiration of the Red Sox pitching to The Moment of Truth. Download this bad boy onto your digital music playing device and listen whilst you work out/drive/sleep/commit felony arson.

As If You Needed MORE YC...
Monday, February 04, 2008
Back in September I forged a relationship with AOL's FanHouse blog, recording those delightful (humor me dudes/dudettes) FanHouse Minute videos once a week (plus a bonus one every once in a while when you're lucky!). After a few short months of that I have apparently tricked them into thinking I have some valuable opinions that a few people may enjoy perusing, and I will now be offering up some of those aforementioned "valuable opinions" on the FanHouse MLB blog - I'll be focusing on the AL East - on a regular basis. I'll be linking to those posts here on YC, or you can check all of my FanHouse action out here: http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/bloggers/yankees-chick/.

Lest this news send you into a panicked frenzy, please rest assured that my new duties with FanHouse will not take away from any of my hard work here at YC. I'll still be comin' atcha with half-literate blabber on a regular basis! WHEW!

Happy Bloggiversary To.... Oh, Me!
Friday, October 19, 2007
After all the hoopla surrounding Torre's stand against the man (or men, now that there are two more Steinettes in the mix) this week I nearly forgot the significance of today's date: it has officially been two years since the inception of this blog, a project that was born out of a healthy mix of Yankees fanaticism and sheer boredom (sorry, old boss) and has evolved into... well, whatever the hell this is.

It's been quite a wild ride, these last 2 years. I've been the brunt of many a derogatory sexual slur (how "I like the Yankees" gets translated into "I'm a raging bitch and slut, likely a member of some godless terrorist sect and probably the ugliest person this side of Don Mossi" I still do not understand, but what the hell do I know? I am but a lowly peasant in your fancy internet world), but I've also been on the receiving end of some of the greatest and most fun email correspondences I've ever had, met and talked to fans (and not just of the Yanks!) all over the world, and been flattered by a few folks' strange and unfounded desires to feature the Yankees Chick over the airwaves and via the magic of online video. The blog has gone from a Blogspot-templated, poorly-written, half-assed outlet for my fandom that no one but myself and perhaps the YCS (Yankees Chick Sisters... there are 5) read in 2005 to... a poorly-designed, poorly-written site that a few more people seem to like. Not bad for 2 years!

To celebrate, I'd like to give one of my lovely friends - or foes (you're already here, you might as well play along too) - a bloggiversary present. As you may have noticed in my barely-coherent ramblings, I am a big fan of nicknames, both ones others made up (Melk-Man) and the dorkus malorkus things my brain churns out (Jobamania, etc etc). For the Yankees Chick Bloggiversary Contest Extravaganza, I think we need some more nicknames: make up a great nickname for a baseball player (past, present, future, as long as it's someone we've heard of), post it in the comments section, and the best one gets a Bronx is Burning DVD.

Just for fun, or if perhaps you are at work and in dire need of a time-waster, here's a quick-and-dirty sampling of what's been going on here at the Yankees Chick for the past 2 years.

Hey! A Video Filmed With a REAL Camera!
Wednesday, August 01, 2007
The Yankees Chick is becoming quite the video-savvy blogger, my most delightful friends (and foes). For those of you that don’t like to read (in general or just the sub-par nattering with which I inundate this site), I have been making a concerted effort to provide your retinas and cochleae with visual and audio adaptations of my plentiful rants and occasional raves, and I am happy to report that I have yet another video for you to enjoy and/or send me hate mail about.

This one comes courtesy of the boys at Bleacher Bloggers, whose blog and video site launches today at www.bleacherbloggers.com. They will be featuring new episodes on Tuesdays and Fridays each week, and they were kind enough to include me as their very first special guest on their inaugural show! Their blog and show are dedicated to discussing the good, bad, and ugly of the sports blogging universive…. and I can only hope the Yankees Chick was incorporated into the show under the “good” headline.

Check out the show on the Bleacher Bloggers website or on YouTube! or... right here!

Multimediatastic Sunday
Sunday, July 29, 2007
It's a very exciting day in YankeesChick-ville, particularly for those of you who do lack the motivation or advanced brain function required for reading. First off, take a gander at my latest installment of Yankeeschickography, during which I run down the latest in Yankees trade rumors.

As if that video excitement wasn't enough, my weekly chatfest on Free The Fan Radio is being amped up a notch this week. Rather than my usual Yankees update at the end of the show, I will be in the studio tonight along with Trey from domewright.com for a rematch of our ill-fated trivia contest - and this time, biased Mets-loving host Mike Silva will not be the judge. And finally, at the end of the show, stay tuned for Mike's interview with one of everyone's faves, Scott Brosius! The show airs from 9-11pm EST, and you can listen right here or at 1240 AM's site.

I Don't Think You're Ready For This Jelly
Saturday, June 02, 2007
The Yankees Chick is a very happy camper today, my lovelies, and not just because Mirabelli is such an incompetent moron. The Yanks' win and subsequent SURGE to just 12 1/2 games out in the division made for a swell start to my weekend, but today brings the commencement of a truly exciting journey as I embark on a 2-month adventure to NYC. I'm heading out east to work in CSTV's main office in Manhattan through August (it is said "real" job that prevents me from inundating this bloggity blog with posts chronicalling my every single hourly thought about the Yankees... Lucky for you!!), but I do plan on attending many games and hopefully tracking down (AKA stalking) Mr. Rodriguez so that I can be the next "mystery blonde" to be photographed with him. For all you folks out in NY, do not hesitate to invite me to a game, shower me with Yankees-related garb, or hook me up with A-Rod for a night of high-stakes hold-em... I'm game!

Win a Prize For Listening to the Yankees Chick!
Sunday, April 08, 2007
EDIT 4/09/07: You can listen to the archive (and still win the contest!) here

As I've previously mentioned, I will be appearing weekly on 1240 AM during Yankees Baseball Online's Sunday night shows (10pm-11pm every Sunday) giving my rants and raves on the Yanks' season. Thank you to all of you have been listening the past couple weeks - - - whether you love me or hate me, I appreciate the feedback!

As a hearty THANK YOU to those who listen (and perhaps a little motivation for those of you too lazy to click a link and listen to me ramble), I'm going to give away a prize to one of you delightful fans/detractors/people-that-accidentally-click-the-link-and-can't-figure-out-how-to-mute-me each week, simply for listening and sending me an email!

Tonight's prize is a Yankeeography Volume I dvd, which you can win by sending me an email after my segment on the show tonight stating at least 1 thing that I talked about (so I know you listened) and telling me a joke. In order to win, you MUST include both the talking point AND the joke! I will post the archive of the segment after the show so that you folks that have to go to bed at a decent hour tonight can still listen in the morning. I'll pick a winner at 3pm PST Monday based on the accuracy of the talking point and the hilarity of the joke.

Listen to the broadcast LIVE on New York's 1240 AM and online at http://www.am1240wgbb.com/. The Yankees Chick will be chatting at about 10:40pm EST.

Send your emails to info@yankeeschick.com

And finally, To my Jesus-lovin' Christian readers, happy Easter! To my Moses-Lovin' Jewish readers, happy (belated) Passover! And to my godless sinning readers (like myself), happy Yankees Sunday!

In Case You Missed It....
Monday, April 02, 2007
I'm assuming you all took the day off from work/school/indentured servitude/volunteer work with bed-ridden senior citizens to watch the game this afternoon, but if you missed it or just want to relive the glory, lets run down what went down in Yankeesville today:

Pitching: As I mentioned yesterday, I have turned a new leaf and am dedicated to supporting Carl Pavano as much as humanly possible during his return to the working world (kind of like offering extra moral support to a woman coming back from a long maternity leave). My boy performed adequately today, going 4 2/3 innings, striking out 2 and allowing 4 earned runs. The fact that he went almost 5 innings is very promising: he had to jog out to the mound several times and did not trip once! Brian Bruney, who did an absolutely brilliant job bailing the Yanks out of many games in 2006, came in after Carl was kicked off the mound, and faced just 2 batters (he let 1 pick up a hit and struck out the other); his short outing was followed by an equally brief and fortunately uneventful outing by Sean Henn. We got our first peak at Luis Vizcaino, one of the spoils the Yanks enjoyed from the Randy Johnson trade, and he pitched a very efficient 3-up 3-down 7th inning. Kyle Farnsworthless surprised me by not looking like a moron or blowing the lead in the 8th - - he consistently hit 100 mph and only gave up 1 hit! Even though it was not a save situation by the 9th inning thanks to the efforts of A-Rod, Mariano pitched anyway and did a glorious job, striking out 3 in a row with just 13 pitches to finish the game.

Defense: Apparently the Yankees' Spring Training workouts did not include defensive drills... In all honesty, I really don't think A-Rod's "error" was an error at all - - he wasn't able to get to a high fly in foul territory, but there was really no clear reason to believe that the ball was his to miss in the first place - - and I must admit that my poor little heart sank a bit upon seeing that E-5 up on the screen, since as we are well aware the dear boy takes such failures to heart. Jeter's and Phelps's respective throwing errors, though, were just plain sloppy. Jeter, Cano, and Phelps did bust out 2 double plays during the game, so I'll chalk those bad throws up to nervous energy.

Offense: I doubt there were many people surprised by the performance of the Yanks' offense today. As a team, they were 12 for 33 with 4 walks and 5 strike outs, very solid numbers for game 1. 7 of the 9 starters had at least 1 hit (Matsui and Phelps were not in the mood for hitting today), and even Mientkiewizc managed to squeak out a hit once he took over for Phelps! Jeter, Giambi, Abreu, Posada and A-Rod all had RBIs, with Posada's and A-Rod's coming via homers. Especially after his aforementioned nerve-wracking "error", I was thrilled to see A-Rod come up with 2 hits (a line drive single in the 7th and that 2-run homer in the 8th) and a stolen base later in the game, and I wasn't the only one - - the homer elicited a rarely-seen (for him...) standing ovation from the fans!

Thank you to all of you that participated in the inaugural Yankees Chick live gameday chat, even if you just popped in for a moment to say hi. I had a lot of fun "watching" the game with my fellow fans and I plan on doing additional gameday chats throughout the season :)

Finally, a bit of shameless self-promotion: The Yankees Chick will be on 1240 am radio during the NY Baseball Online show again tonight offering a few minutes of Yankees talk at about 11:20 EST. I'll be giving my 2 cents on the show weekly, and I would love for you all to listen!!

Chat LIVE with the Yankees Chick On Opening Day!!
Sunday, April 01, 2007
Not that we need any further reason to get pumped for the start of the 2007 season, but the Yankees Chick is ready to roll out a new chat room feature in which we can gather during the games and yell at the tv - and each other!

Tomorrow's inaugural game will serve as a test for this Yankees Chick chat room - - if it proves to be boring and a waste of valuable browser space (entirely possible), I shall put the kibosh on future usages; I'm hoping, though, that it will end up being a fun way to watch/listen to the games "with" people whether we're at work (do not notify my boss, por favor), sitting on the sofa, or off on some fabulous vacation watching the game via the resort's extended WIFI.

I'll be logging in to the chat room about 1 hr before game time tomorrow, about noon EST. You can access the chat room by clicking the link below - you will be prompted to enter a username and then we'll be chatting!

I hope to see you all here tomorrow!!

In the meantime....dream sweet Yankees dreams...
