Sidenote Saturdays: My Twin Sisters are Hotter Than Yours
Saturday, May 03, 2008
Happy Saturday, my delightful friends! The Yanks played great today, which always makes for a good afternoon. Moose pitched a gem (we needed that after the poor outings by I-Ken and Pettitte last week), and save for Cano and Giambi, whose continued sorry performances have sadly conditioned us to expect little or nothing from that duo, the bats were looking good. What's more, it's time for my favorite post of the week: Sidenote Saturdays!
Commence! -----------------------------------
Mike Hampton may have officially usurped Pavano's role as the most hilariously injury-prone pitcher in baseball. All he needs to do is break a rib or two by tripping over Bobby Cox's shoe and Pavano will have to relinquish his crown. -----------------------------------
I have never seen an episode of The Wonder Years that hasn't made me cry. -----------------------------------
I have the best little sisters EVER (the YCLS). I can't imagine better friends. ----> -----------------------------------
Seeing people litter really irks me. Is it so difficult to hold onto your goddamn Super Size Mr Pibb cup until you come across a proper receptacle? I am constantly picking trash up and throwing it away for you losers. -----------------------------------
<---- My poor dog had a mole removed on his ear last week and has to wear one of those pathetic/hilarious cones: -----------------------------------
I have to admit that I really don't understand how the odds work when it comes to betting on baseball. If someone wants to explain so I can win some dough, please do.
----------------------------------
Have all of y'all been watching "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job" on Adult Swim? Please say yes. "I wanna meet that dad!"

Sidenote Saturdays: Just Say No
Sunday, April 27, 2008
I was so distraught over the way Ohlendork blew the game yesterday that I completely neglected my Sidenote Saturdays duties - again! Lest you think I didn't write anything because I had nothing to say, let me assure you that this is certainly not the case! Allow me to prove it to you... -----------------------------------
Many moons ago, one of my uncles was literally living in the wilderness in Oregon (or in his car), living off the land (don't do drugs, dudes), and had quite an experience with a deer. Using some sort of rope or cord, he killed a deer with his bare hands and loaded the poor sucker into his car. Fast forward a couple hours as he is driving said vehicle with said dead wildlife, and slowly but surely rigor mortus sets in. Cue the deer's stiff legs busting through the read windows! Wait, it gets better: a police officer happened to cruise by and saw the commotion, and guess what? It's apparently not cool to kill a wild deer. -----------------------------------
All these Padres low-scoring extra innings games are starting to grate on my nerves. One run in 22 innings?! COME ON NOW. -----------------------------------
Bob Odenkirk (left) looks eerily like Greg Graffin (right) these days. -----------------------------------
Being good at math seems like one of the least useful skills I could possess. Why can't I just be good at writing instead? -----------------------------------
I hate the feeling of sand on my feet. The very thought of it makes me not want to go to the beach. That and seaweed. And fish. -----------------------------------
Has anyone else read OJ's "If I Did it" book/awesome "OK I Did it But it Was Totally Justified; Nicole was one drugged up beast" book? God it's amazing. -----------------------------------
The YCD is back in the hospital. Send more good vibes... -----------------------------------
Sorry to end on a sad note. I promise next week I'll deliver ON SATURDAY and it'll be chock full of happy sidenotes!

I can't believe I didn't write an SS yesterday! Talk about FAIL. I have mentioned several times how much I enjoy writing these posts, and then I go and ignore my YC duties for a full day? FOR SHAME! I'd imagine I'm probs the only one of us that mourned the lack of YC writin' yesterday, but humor me and read this shit with a delightful smile on your face. Commence! ----------------------------------- Ryan Howard is one fat mofo. ----------------------------------- The perfect unsolvable murder would be to kill your victim with an icicle. All the evidence, including foot prints, tire tracks, and the murder weapon itself, melt away. ----------------------------------- I am incapable of not finishing a book, regardless of how boring or poorly written it is. I must persevere to the end. I always think " someone thought this was worthy of being published. What did they see in it? I need to figure it out." I am reading such a book right now. ----------------------------------- FYI, punching a wall really, REALLY jacks up your hand. Like, a lot. I learned that this weekend. ----------------------------------- There are not many things cuter than a dog eating peanut butter. ----------------------------------- The YCD is doing much better, BTW. ----------------------------------- Ans so concludes this Sunday edition of Sidenote Saturdays! Till next time... Read last week's Sidenote Saturdays: Don't Boo Me, Rock Band Fans

Ready for some Sidenotes? I am! ----------------------------------- I have a debilitating addiction to the Investigative Discovery channel. I have not watched any television besides baseball and real crime shows in weeks. Note to criminals: Don't forget about the magic of Luminol. Painting over the blood stains on your basement walls will not fool the crafty detectives. ----------------------------------- I've mentioned before that I am a big fan of music, particularly the punk rock and/or roll and some sweet classic rock. My all-time favorite albums are: 10) Flowers - Rolling Stones 9) After the Eulogy - Boy Sets Fire 8) Harvest - Neil Young 7) The Empire Strikes First - Bad Religion 6) Reactionary - Face to Face 5) Our Darkest Days - Ignite 4) Black Sails in the Sunset - AFI 3) White Light, White Heat, White Trash - Social Distortion 2) Against the Grain - Bad Religion 1) No Control - Bad Religion What are yours? ----------------------------------- Oh, another addiction: www.scrabulous.comI will beat you. ----------------------------------- I live in San Diego but have only been to the beach one time in the last four years. I fear my vampire-white skin would blind fellow beach-goers. ----------------------------------- I am very impressed with the Coca Cola company and their fine product Coke Zero. SO much better than Diet Coke... it's not even close. ----------------------------------- ...Nowhere near the deliciosity of Dr Pepper, however. ----------------------------------- If I lose fans after a poor drumming performance in Rock Band, I feel very disappointed in myself. ----------------------------------- If they don't get this game in today and the Sox win by decision when the Yanks had two on and A-Rod up in the eigth, I am going to punch a wall (preferably one with a picture of Manny plastered on it). ----------------------------------- Back to your regularly scheduled baseball programming! Happy Saturday, friends and foes! No work, no school, and, best of all, Sidenote Saturdays on YC! ----------------------------------- There is an article about me in the Buffalo News today. Check it out! http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns/othersports/story/315991.html----------------------------------- I have a baby blanket that I sleep with Every night. Its name is Quilty. ----------------------------------- Mike Hampton and Carl Pavano should get married and have embarrassingly injury-prone babies together. ----------------------------------- I am such a friendless dork that I have actually been to baseball games ALONE. ----------------------------------- I met Tony Gwynn at the NAB Conference last year (sidenote within a sidenote: I'll be there again this year) and I was so impressed by him. Extremely friendly, approachable, and down to earth. ----------------------------------- Why are baseball players so damn sensitive? Any time a player shows the slightest twinkling of emotion the opposing batter or pitcher gets offended and bitter. Last year the Mets were always having fun and the rest of the NL was all up in arms about it after playing them... but in other sports anything goes: ----------------------------------- Speaking of the Mets, they are about to get Rickrolled: http://www.metsblog.com/2008/04/04/note-mets-about-to-be-rickrolled/----------------------------------- I have never seen a single minute of the Star Wars saga and I have no intention of doing so. ----------------------------------- Well, that's all I can think of for today. The Yanks blew it again today, so I'm a tad bummed. Perhaps I'll write something about the pathetic display the Yanks have put up over the past two games in a bit! | Sidenote Saturdays: Way to Go, Mexico! |
Saturday, March 29, 2008
Ah, how I love Sidenote Saturdays. It brings me great joy to blabber about the many non-baseball topics that live in my brain - believe it or not, baseball is not always at the top of the my list of thoughts! All week as I pondered random things I kept exclaiming (in my brain, that is, lest you think I am crazier than I am [and I am crazy, there is no denying that; see the towels story below as one minor example] and say such things aloud) "I've got to put that in my Sidenote Saturday!" Of course, I've forgotten most of them, but here are the ones I remember. ----------------------------------- I am going to be on TV in April - a sports show that will air throughout LA county. Details forthcoming. ----------------------------------- I Know Joe Morgan has a knack for saying the darndest things, but I kinda like him. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. ----------------------------------- The YCD is doing much better and is recovering from his surgery quite nicely. He should be out of the hospital sometime this week, just in time for the season to start rolling. ----------------------------------- When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a farmer. Anytime the age-old question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" was posed my answer would invariably come back "a farmer!" I think it was the idea of having a sweet barn in which to jump in piles of hay that was so attractive. And goats. ----------------------------------- This week in Mexico some very wise youngsters starting some riots against emo kids. As a punk rock chick, this brings a little grin to my face. ----------------------------------- Until a couple years ago, I had an extreme and irrational hatred of towels. The texture literally made my stomach churn. So much did I hate them, in fact, that the YCM made me some non-terry cloth bath towels to use. I am still not a fan of towels, but I'm able to use them like a normal person now. Yes, I have problems. ----------------------------------- The recent "scandal" surrounding Obama and his nutso pastor is beyond pointless. Holding someone accountable for another's idiocy is idiotic and unfair. Let's go ahead and blame Romney for the lunacy that is Mormonism while we're at it. ----------------------------------- I hate Nirvana with a fiery passion unrivaled by my dislike for any other artist/group. The Dave Matthews Band is up there, too. ----------------------------------- Alrighty, that's it for today. I'll be posting a lot more this weekend - I must at least try to get caught up on my 2008 Season Previews. Time is running out! Read last week's Sidenote Saturdays: I H8 U

It's been a full week since my last off-topic ramble and I've gotta say that I've been looking forward to this for days! Why didn't I start doing this sooner?! I assumed no one cared what I do/think besides Yankees-related biz, but then I realized "oh yeah, this is my blog, I can write about anything that's in my brain!" Henceforth, here it is: Sidenote Saturdays, AKA Take a Peak into YC's Life Whether You Want to or Not. ----------------------------------- My mom and dad have known each other since they were 5 years old - they went to the same school and lived down the street from each other. When I was younger I had some strange notion that that was how all marriages began and was aghast at the thought of marrying one of the cootie-infested boys in kindergarten. ----------------------------------- I'm all Hillary. You? ----------------------------------- Much to my chagrin, I've noticed that I've adopted the obnoxious habit of using "Text message shorthand" when I send texts. C U 2nite! Can't W8! ----------------------------------- On that note, I HATE (h8) talking on the phone. Texts and emails are so much more pleasant. ----------------------------------- Xanax is one of the best inventions in the history of mankind. Way better than the wheel (someone had to invent that?) or the cotton gin (no offense, Eli). ----------------------------------- Siamese twins really depress me. ----------------------------------- That does it for me, munecas! I'll be coming atcha with some baseball later. I really need to catch up on those 2008 Season Previews, seeing as I've only gotten through 14 of them and the season is fast approaching. Perhaps I'll do two later - it's not like I have a "life" or anything. Read last week's Sidenote Saturday: Is Myspace Even "Hip" Anymore?

Sidenote Saturdays: Is Myspace Even "Hip" Anymore?
Saturday, March 15, 2008
Greetings and Saturday Salutations! I hope you're all having a more exciting weekend than I, but if you're not, then boy do I have a treat for you! As I mentioned last week, I'm going to be mixing things up on Saturdays by writing a post completely off-topic; rather than blabbering about the Yanks I'll be blabbering about whatever is in my brain.
Enjoy! Or not... it's up to you. Either way.
-----------------------------------
I have joined the magical corny world of Myspace. Come be my friend!
-----------------------------------
Why is it that the country gets all up in arms when a politician is involved in some sort of sex scandal, but remains indifferent to indiscretions that actually affect us? Like, lets say, waging a war without reason? I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that for now...
-----------------------------------
Do any of y'all that live in San Diego listen to The Mikey Show on 105.7 fm weekday mornings? I'm a big fan. ----------------------------------
On the night that my twin little sisters were born, the YCD took my three older sisters and I to a Dodgers game (why weren't any of us visiting my mother who had given birth to twins just 12 hours earlier? Don't ask me, I was five years old. That's a good question for the YCD though). Without the YCM around no one was too concerned about what I wore to the game - flip flops, one of which I promptly lost somehow walking from the car into the stadium and proceeded to enjoy the game with one hoof un-shoed - or what I ate. I recall eating a hot dog, popcorn, peanuts, and cotton candy. I threw up the minute we got home. Good times...
-----------------------------------
In first grade, I brought the twins to class for show and tell.
-----------------------------------
I took an advanced statistics (lest you forget, I was the vice prez of the match club in high school... good god I was a loser. And by "was" I mean "am") class my freshman year at San Diego State and earned an A. However, when the grades came out after finals week my transcript showed a B+. Shortly thereafter I got an email from my professor asking me out. I asked about the B+ and he implied that perhaps that could be ammended if I went out with him. I declined and kept the B+.
-----------------------------------
It really bothers me when I ask a waitress/waiter if the restaurant has Dr Pepper and they reply "no, but we have root beer!" Is that supposed to make me feel better? It doesn't. -----------------------------------
All right, that's enough of that for this week. I'll post some actual baseball tonight - St Louis's 2008 Season Preview - and a delightful article about Torre and Girardino manana. Enjoy your weekend, lovelies!

Sidenote Saturdays: You Wish You Had a Dog Named Rat Biscuit
Saturday, March 08, 2008
Saturdays are slow news days, leaving the YC with few ideas for moderately thought-provoking bloggity posts. However, as you may have noticed from the number of articles with which I clutter this site, I am not one to take a day off from sitting on my ass in front of the computer. Being the writing fiend that I am - and that is not to imply that I am any good, just that I thoroughly enjoy all the therapeutic benefits that come from focusing on baseball and making fun of Pavano - my brain is always churning, trying to come up with more shit I can write. As you well know from your faithful reading (don't deny that YC is your homepage, every one of you! Right? Right), I rarely talk about my personal life (with the exception of the occasional quick note about politics and the demise of our country under the Dubya administration), and while I'm not entirely sure anyone cares what the hell I do besides write baseball shiz, I've decided I don't care whether you care. From now on I'll be sharing some non-baseball thoughts from the mind of YC with y'all on Saturdays. Ready? Let's do it! ----------------------------------- I saw Bad Religion (a band that has affected my life in a very profound way since my early teenage years... I'll have to explain why they are so important in a future Sidenote) for the 21st time last night, and the show was incredible, easily taking a spot in the top five concerts I've ever been to (three of the other top five are BR shows and the last is Neil Young). The majority of the setlist came from their earliest years, so we were treated to tunes much of the audience - myself included - had never had the pleasure of seeing live. They also did a 2-song acoustic encore, which was brilliant and a great surprise. I'm going again tonight, and the "theme" for tonight's show is going to be songs from the late 80's/early 90's era. I can't wait. They should really let me in for free at this point... what with my ATG tattoo and all. ----------------------------------- When the YCD was a lad, his dad won a dog named Rat Biscuit in a poker game. ----------------------------------- I was discussing with a friend the other day about how classic the "if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit!" like was. I wonder how long it took Johnny Cochran to come up with that? I picture him in his office the night before, stressed to the max, rejected ideas crumpled up and strewn all around the trashcan. It's too bad he didn't have the YC on call to help him out, cuz I have some fine ideas: "If the glove is too small, the prosecutors have dropped the ball!" "If the glove has shrunk, our case is a slam dunk!" "If he can't put it on, your charges are wrong!" "If his hand is too large, set him free, sarge!" "If he can't wear the glove, all he felt for Nicole was love!" ----------------------------------- That's it for today. Baseball tomorrow! Labels: haha...ha., sidenote saturdays |
